Rotational motion in nuclei.

چکیده

The exploration of nuclear structure over the last quarter century has been a rich experience for those who have had the privilege to participate. As the nucleus has been subjected to more and more penetrating probes, it has continued to reveal unexpected facets and to open new perspectives. The preparation of our talks today has been an occasion for Ben Mottelson and myself to relive the excitement of this period and to recall the interplay of so many ideas and discoveries coming from the worldwide community of nuclear physicists, as well as the warmth of the personal relations that have been involved. In this development, the study of rotational motion has had a special role. Because of the simplicity of this mode of excitation and the many quantitative relations it implies, it has been an important testing ground for many of the general ideas on nuclear dynamics. Indeed, the response to rotational motion has played a prominent role in the development of dynamical concepts ranging from celestial mechanics to the spectra of elementary particles.

Shell Effects on Rotational Damping in Superdeformed Nuclei

Damping of collective rotational motion in A ∼ 190 and A ∼ 150 superdeformed nuclei is studied by means of the cranked shell model with two-body residual force. Numerical calculations predict that in a typical A ∼ 190 superdeformed nucleus, Hg, the rotational damping width is significantly small, Γrot ∼ 30 keV, and that the number of superdeformed bands in the off-yrast region amounts up to 150...

Seismic Damage Assessment of RC Buildings Subjected to the Rotational Ground Motion Records Considering Soil-Structure Interaction

The significance of the seismic rotational components have been overlooked in the seismic evaluation of structural behavior. As researchers have measured seismic components more accurately using sensitive rotational velocity sensor, it was observed that the magnitude of rotational components is considerable and could not be neglected. Hence, some parts of seismic damage or failure of structures...

A pr 1 99 6 KUNS 1385 Onset of Rotational Damping in Superdeformed Nuclei

We discuss damping of the collective rotational motion in A ∼ 150 superdeformed nuclei by means of a shell model combining the cranked Nilsson mean-filed and the surface-delta two-body residual force. It is shown that, because of the shell structure associated with the superdeformed mean-field, onset energy of the rotational damping becomes Ex ∼ 2 − 3 MeV above yrast line, which is much higher ...

Nonlinear Dynamics of the Rotational Slender Axially Moving String with Simply Supported Conditions

In this research, dynamic analysis of the rotational slender axially moving string is investigated. String assumed as Euler Bernoulli beam. The axial motion of the string, gyroscopic force and mass eccentricity were considered in the study. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton’s principle, resulting in two partial differential equations for the transverse motions. The equations are ch...
